FIFA World Cup 2002™, também conhecido como FIFA World Cup 2002, é o segundooficial da EA Sports sobre a Copa do Mundo e um produto relacionado à Copa do Mundo FIFA de 2002, lançado para GameCube, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation, PlayStation 2 e Xbox. Foi desenvolvido pela EA Canada e Creations, com a Intelligent Games auxiliando no desenvolvimento das versões para PC e consoles de sexta geração, e a Tose Software contribuindocom a versão para GameCube. O jogo foi publicado pela EA Sports na América do Norte e Europa e pela Electronic Arts Square no Japão. A versão para GameCube foi um título de lançamento do console na Europa.

VISÃO GERAL

Sendo um jogo intermediário entre os motores de jogo do FIFA Football 2002 e do FIFA Football 2003, o jogo ainda incorpora a barra de potência para chutes e cruzamentos, mas com uma curva de aprendizado mais acentuada e personalização das chances de ser penalizado pelo árbitro da partida. Alguns uniformes são licenciados, juntamente com a imagem dos jogadores e os estádios da Copa do Mundo FIFA de 2002. Ao contrário dos jogos anteriores da série FIFA, o jogo tinha uma trilha sonora original composta por Bob Buckley e interpretada pela Orquestra Sinfônica de Vancouver, embora "Anthem", de Vangelis, seja usada como uma das fanfarras de entrada da partida.

PROCESSO

O goleiro do Bayern de Munique e da seleção alemã, Oliver Kahn, processou com sucesso a Electronic Arts por sua inclusão no jogo sem seu consentimento prévio, apesar de a EA ter chegado a um acordo com a FIFPro, entidade que representa todos os jogadores de FIFA. Como resultado, a EA foi proibida de vender cópias do jogo na Alemanha e foi obrigada a indenizar financeiramente Kahn.

RECEPÇÃO

O jogo FIFA World Cup de 2002 teve uma recepção positiva a mediana. O GameRankings e o Metacritic deram uma pontuação de 79% e 80 de 100 para a versão de PC; 76,58% e 73 de 100 para a versão de PlayStation 2; 76,05% e 79 de 100 para a versão de Xbox; 73,59% e 78 de 100 para a versão de GameCube; e 68,75% e 77 de 100 para a versão de PlayStation. No Japão, a Famitsu deu às versões de GameCube, PS2 e Xbox uma pontuação de 30 de 40 cada.

A versão para PlayStation 2 do FIFA World Cup de 2002 recebeu um prêmio de vendas "Ouro" da Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA), indicando vendas de pelo menos 200.000 cópias no Reino Unido. O jogo foi um sucesso imediato na Itália, com vendas de 90.000 unidades em todas as plataformas no primeiro dia de lançamento.

O jogo vendeu 3,5 milhões de cópias até outubro de 2002.
